Generic CES 2015 Photos
Tech journalists from around the world are now descending on Las Vegas for CES 2015, which runs through the end of the week. Startups and tech giants alike will crowd the halls of the city's convention center, showing off what they hope will be 2015's Next Big Thing.

If you're wondering what that might entail, our analysts have written their guides for what to expect from HDTVs, phones, tablets, and more. Check that out below, and click through for a more in-depth look at each category.

And be sure to follow PCMag's complete show coverage on our CES page.
HDTVs: Trade shows like CES are all about showing off the biggest, baddest HDTVs, but PCMag's Will Greenwald thinks we should be on the lookout for the finally-here future of ultra-high-definition televisions (UHD or 4K). 4K televisions have been around for a few years, but they haven't quite clicked with most consumers for two reasons. First, they have been much more expensive than 1080p televisions. Second, there simply hasn't been much content available in 4K. HDTV manufacturers have been steadily chipping away at the first problem, and streaming media services are working hard to fix the second.
Cell Phones: CES isn't the world's biggest mobile phone show. That's Mobile World Congress, coming this year at the end of February. But for much of the world, mobile computing is how people get online, and so we can't have a show as big as CES without some serious cell phone action going on. Expect news from the carriers - particularly AT&T - as well as Mozilla and phone makers like Asus, HTC and LG, which will likely show off the G Flex 2.
Tablets: At CES, we likely won't see a lot of high-end tablets with their sights set on Apple's iPad Air 2, but we expect to see a surge in affordable, nearly disposable tablets from name brands and upstarts alike. That's just on the Android side, though, and some of the more exciting movement will land on the Windows-powered side of the fence this year. Two key pieces will drive Windows-based tablet development in 2015: Microsoft's Windows 8.1 with Bing and the introduction of Intel's Core M processor.
Laptops and Desktops: First and foremost, Intel's new Broadwell processors are coming soon, offering slightly better processing capability but with significant improvements in graphics processing and battery life. For thinner ultraportables, we've already seen Intel's Core M processor in a few new models, like the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, but CES should be bringing a slew of Core M-equipped systems. Meanwhile, Full HD is the new standard for most laptops, so expect to see more systems announced that offer 3K and 4K UltraHD resolutions.
Activity Trackers and Wearables: PCMag's Jill Duffy and Alex Colon expect many of the major smartwatch announcements for 2015 to happen at MWC. Still, there are probably going to be a ton of smartwatches at CES. Nearly every pitch we've seen so far mentions at least some form of wrist-worn wearable. We're just not sure if we're going to see any that make a very big splash. Of those that do make an appearance, expect a number of fashion tie-ups. And in the wearable space overall, be on the lookout for new virtual reality options.
Digital Cameras: CES is become less and less of a camera show with each passing year, but that doesn't mean it will be devoid of cameras this year. Point-and-shoots with long zoom lenses and CMOS image sensors still enjoy yearly updates, so expect to see at least a few announced at CES. PCMag's Jim Fisher also expect to see some affordable camcorders with 4K recording capability this year. And heads up - there will be drones. Lots of 'em.
